Using Listalista
What does Listalista actually do?
It is a price book for your household. You record what a branded item costs at each store, and the app keeps those observations so you can see which store is cheapest for it and how its price has moved.
How do I record a price?
Open Add a product, fill in the store, the product, the brand, the size and the price, and save. That is one record, and you can add another straight away.
Do I need an account to add a price?
No. You can start recording prices right away and the app keeps them for you. Signing in with your email later keeps everything you have already recorded and moves it onto your account.
What does the barcode and photo lookup do?
It removes the typing. You scan the barcode and snap the package and the shelf price tag, and the server fills in the product, the brand, the size and the price it can read, for you to check and correct before you save. It is the one part of capture that Premium unlocks.
Where does the looked-up information come from?
Three places, most trusted first: something your own household already recorded under that barcode, then the free Open Food Facts database, then a reading of your photos. Nothing is saved until you confirm it.
Can I find something I recorded before?
Yes. Search your price book by product name, brand or barcode, and each result shows what that item costs at every store you have recorded, cheapest first.
Does it work in more than one currency?
Each price is recorded with its own currency, so nothing is silently converted. Comparing prices only makes sense inside one currency.
Your household
What is a household?
It is the group of people who share a kitchen and a price book. Everything anyone in it records is visible to everyone else in it, and to nobody outside it.
How do I add someone?
The person who owns the household invites them by email, and they join as a member once they accept. Sending an invitation is a Premium feature.
Can another household see what we record?
No. A price you record belongs to your household alone. The shared reference list of stores, products and brands is common to everyone, but your prices are not.
Who can pay for Premium?
The person who owns the household. One subscription covers the household, so nobody else in it is asked to pay.
Your data
What is stored about me?
The prices you record and the items they belong to, your household and who is in it, your email address once you sign in, and whether your household has Premium.
What happens to my photos?
A photo you send for a lookup is read once to fill the form in and is not kept as part of your price book. The one picture that stays is the representative image of the item.
Are my prices sold or used for advertising?
No. Your price book is yours, and it is not sold, shared or used to advertise to you.
Plans and billing
What does the free plan include?
Recording prices, your whole price book, searching it, and comparing what an item costs across the stores you have recorded. That is the product, not a trial of it.
What does Premium add?
Two things: the barcode and photo lookup that fills a capture in for you, and the ability to invite other people into your household. Nothing else is held back.
How is it billed?
One monthly subscription for the whole household, taken through Stripe. Your card details are entered with Stripe and never reach Listalista.
What happens if I cancel?
Your price book stays exactly as it is and you can keep recording prices by hand. What stops is the barcode and photo lookup and sending new invitations.
